STEM Magnet

If you are not zoned to Hogg Middle School and seeking a STEM Magnet Transfer:

We will offer 75 STEM Magnet Transfers to incoming 6th Grade students who are not zoned to Hogg Middle School. Because we are an open-enrollment campus, there is no qualifying matrix to apply for a STEM Magnet Transfer to Hogg Middle School. However, because we receive more applications than we have space for, these 75 transfers will be chosen through a lottery process from all qualified in-district applications received during the PHASE 1 WINDOW that are not zoned to Hogg. We typically do not have space to offer transfers for applications received after the Phase 1 deadline.

We also do not plan to accept any new 7th graders or 8th graders on STEM Magnet Transfers for 2026-2027. Students who currently attend Hogg Middle School on STEM Magnet Transfers will be allowed to return, provided they meet the terms of their contracts.

All applications should be submitted online through the School Choice Application Platform.

Note: All K to 12th grade students should apply during Phase 1 of the application timeline. This includes out of district and/or students new to the district, as all applicants will be considered for the Phase 1 lottery.

Phase I: Lottery – Parents rank options and apply. HISD runs a lottery to determine which students get a seat. Students who do not receive a seat are waitlisted at all schools ranked higher than the one where the seat was offered.

Phase II: Space Available - Parents who apply will be added to existing waitlists established during Phase I or will be offered seats at campuses where there is space available. Students may still be offered a seat at a campus if space opens until the end of Phase 2. At the end of this phase, waitlists are retired. Current HISD students can no longer apply once this phase closes.

Note:

  • Students that are not enrolled in HISD can submit an application even after Phase 2 has closed.
  • School Choice application dates for PreK will be shared in the coming weeks.
